Catalogue note

This is a November 1969 Seiko 5146-5001 TV Presmatic Hi-Beat 27J DAINI offered in excellent condition. Seiko DAINI's 51XX movement range made its debut in 1967 with the introduction of the 5106 Seikomatic-P. The 5146 Hi-Beat (28,800 BHP) movement Presmatic was introduced in 1969.The Seiko Presmatic 5146 movement is truly unique and was way ahead of its time. It is a high precision timepiece equipped with a ball raced auto-weight and hacking features. It also has an "instant" day / date change, thus both day and date will change simultaneously at the stroke of midnight. It is also a "hi-beat" movement with 27 jewels and it operates at 28,800bph with high accuracy. The 5146 was the last 51XX to go out of service in 1971, rendering it collectible almost immediately.

This watch has an immaculately preserved reflective Silver Sunburst Dial. the baton indices and hands, and silver day/date window are also in pristine condition, while the case has only very slight hairline scratches remaining after a recent comprehensive service, during which the crystal was replaced.

The crown is original and located at its traditional 3H position and is easily accessible. The quick date set works flawlessly and operates in the traditional Presmatic method of adjusting the date and hands. There is no day quickset. The case width and height are 38mm (without crown) and 42mm respectively. The lug width is 19mm and the bracelet can accommodate wrists up to 17cm. The bracelet is a Seiko Presmatic Signed SS bracelet that was also subjected to ultrasonic cleaning and a good polish. The links were also tightened.
